Are you a fan of Pokémon games? Do you enjoy playing online games with your friends? In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about this exciting new game, including what it is, how to play it, what are its features, how to download it, and how to improve your skills. Let's get started!

What is Pokémon UNITE?

Pokémon UNITE is a free-to-start online only spin-off Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch, iOS, iPadOS, and Android. It is developed by TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent Games. The game was released on July 21, 2021 on the Nintendo Switch [^1] and it was released on September 22, 2021 for mobile devices. [^2]

The game takes place on Aeos Island, where Professor Phorus and researcher Erbie are studying a special kind of energy called Aeos energy. This energy can be collected by participating in Unite Battles, which are 5-on-5 team battles where players score points by depositing Aeos energy in the opposing team's goal zones. The team with the most points at the end of each match wins.

Pokémon UNITE is different from other Pokémon games in several ways. First of all, it does not follow the traditional type advantages and weaknesses of other games. Instead, it relies on timing, spacing, teamwork, and strategy. Second, it allows players to customize their Pokémon with different items, cosmetics, and abilities. Third, it supports cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

How to Play Pokémon UNITE?

Choose Your Pokémon

Before you enter a Unite Battle, you need to choose which Pokémon you want to play as. There are currently over 30 playable Pokémon in the game, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, roles, and abilities. The roles are:

< Score Points and Win Battles

The main objective of Pokémon UNITE is to score more points than the opposing team by the end of the match. To score points, you need to collect Aeos energy from defeating wild Pokémon, opposing Pokémon, or map objectives. Then, you need to deposit the Aeos energy in one of the enemy's goal zones, which are marked by circles on the map. Each goal zone has a certain amount of HP, and once it is depleted, it is destroyed and cannot be used anymore.

Scoring points is not as simple as it sounds, though. You need to be careful of the enemy team's interference, as they can attack you and steal your Aeos energy while you are trying to score. You also need to be aware of the timer and the score difference, as they affect how much points you can score. For example, in the last two minutes of the match, all points are doubled, so you can make a comeback or secure your lead with a well-timed scoring spree.

Another important aspect of scoring points is using your Unite move. This is a powerful ability that each Pokémon can use once they reach a certain level. Unite moves can deal massive damage, heal allies, or provide other benefits depending on the Pokémon. They can also make you invincible and unstoppable while you are scoring, so you can use them to score without fear of being interrupted. However, Unite moves have a long cooldown, so you need to use them wisely and strategically.

Finally, scoring points is not just about your individual performance. It is also about your teamwork and coordination with your allies. You can communicate with your teammates using quick chat messages or voice chat (if enabled). You can also see your teammates' locations, health bars, and Unite move gauges on the mini-map. You should work together with your teammates to secure objectives, defend your goals, and support each other in battles.

What are the Features of Pokémon UNITE?

Cross-Platform Play

One of the coolest features of Pokémon UNITE is that it supports cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. This means that you can play with or against players on different devices without any issues. You can also link your Nintendo Account or Pokémon Trainer Club account to your game and access your progress and data on any device.

Cross-platform play also allows you to enjoy different ways of playing the game. You can use the Joy-Con controllers or the Pro Controller on the Nintendo Switch, or use touch controls or a compatible controller on mobile devices. You can also adjust the graphics settings and frame rate on mobile devices to optimize your performance and battery life.

Customization and Progression

Pokémon UNITE offers a lot of options for customizing and progressing your Pokémon and your trainer. You can use various items, cosmetics, and currencies to enhance your gameplay and appearance.

Items are divided into two categories: Held Items and Battle Items. Held Items are passive items that provide stat boosts or effects to your Pokémon during battles. You can equip up to three Held Items per Pokémon, and you can upgrade them using Item Enhancers to increase their effects. Battle Items are active items that you can use once per battle to gain an advantage. You can only equip one Battle Item per match, and you can unlock more by increasing your trainer level.

Cosmetics are divided into two categories: Pokémon Skins and Trainer Fashion. Pokémon Skins are outfits that change the appearance of your Pokémon in battles and menus. You can unlock them by using Aeos Gems (premium currency) or by participating in events or promotions. Trainer Fashion are clothes and accessories that change the appearance of your trainer in battles and menus. You can unlock them by using Aeos Coins (free currency), Aeos Tickets (free currency), Aeos Gems, or by completing missions or challenges.

Currencies are divided into three categories: Aeos Coins, Aeos Tickets, and Aeos Gems. Aeos Coins are earned by playing matches or completing missions, and they can be used to buy new Pokémon licenses, Held Items, or Trainer Fashion. Aeos Tickets are earned by logging in daily or weekly, or by opening reward boxes, and they can be used to buy Item Enhancers or Trainer Fashion. Aeos Gems are purchased with real money or earned by leveling up your Battle Pass (more on that later), and they can be used to buy new Pokémon licenses, Held Items, Battle Items, Pokémon Skins, Trainer Fashion, or Battle Pass tiers.

Ranked and Quick Battles

Pokémon UNITE offers different game modes for different preferences and playstyles. The main game mode is Ranked Battles, where you compete with other players in standard 5-on-5 matches on the Remoat Stadium map to earn points and rank up. Ranked Battles have seasons, tiers, and ratings, and they reward you with Aeos Coins, Aeos Tickets, and other prizes depending on your performance.

The other game mode is Quick Battles, where you can play casual matches with different rules and maps. Quick Battles are shorter and more varied than Ranked Battles, and they reward you with Aeos Coins, Aeos Tickets, and experience points. Some of the Quick Battle maps are:

  • Aeos City: A 4-on-4 map where you score points by defeating Rotom or Zapdos in the center area.

  • Mer Stadium: A 3-on-3 map where you score points by defeating wild Pokémon or the enemy's Drednaw or Regigigas.

  • Shivre City: A 5-on-5 map where you score points by defeating wild Pokémon or the enemy's Avalugg or Articuno.

In addition to these game modes, Pokémon UNITE also has a Battle Pass system, where you can complete daily and weekly missions to earn Battle Points and unlock rewards. The Battle Pass has two tracks: a free track and a premium track. The free track rewards you with Aeos Coins, Aeos Tickets, Item Enhancers, and Trainer Fashion. The premium track rewards you with Aeos Gems, Pokémon Skins, Trainer Fashion, and Holowear Tickets (a special currency that can be used to buy exclusive Pokémon Skins).
