The Dark Side of the Moon is a metal quartet formed by members of Feuerschwanz, Amaranthe and Ad Infinitum, who share a passion for fantasy and sci-fi stories. Their debut album, Metamorphosis, is a tribute to some of the most popular fantasy franchises in the world, such as Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Witcher, and more. The band reinterprets famous soundtrack themes and writes original songs inspired by their favorite characters. The album was released on May 12, 2023, by Napalm Records.

In this article, we will explore how this album came to be, what are the songs and their sources, and how it was received by critics and fans alike.

How It All Started

The Dark Side of the Moon started with a bet between AD INFINITUM singer Melissa Bonny and Hans Platz, the guitarist of FEUERSCHWANZ. Whoever lost owed the other a "dare". Hans won and challenged Melissa to record a metal version of their latest released single "Jenny Of Oldstones", a song from Game of Thrones TV series.

The Songs and Their Sources

The Dark Side of the Moon has chosen a diverse and eclectic selection of songs to cover and transform into metal anthems. Some of them are faithful renditions of the original melodies, while others are more creative and experimental. Let's take a look at each song and its source of inspiration.

Legends Never Die

The album opens with a cover of Legends Never Die, the theme song of the 2017 League of Legends World Championship, featuring American rock band Against the Current. The song is a powerful and uplifting anthem that celebrates the spirit of competition and perseverance. The Dark Side of the Moon adds more metal elements to the song, such as heavier guitars, drums, and backing vocals, while keeping the original vocal melody and lyrics. Melissa Bonny delivers a stunning performance that matches the intensity and emotion of Chrissy Costanza's voice.
